An Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft has delivered 43 tonnes of emergency medical and diagnostic kits to Entebbe Airport to bolster the Africa CDC's regional Ebola response. Handed over by High Commissioner Upender Singh Rawat, the supplies will be forwarded via Uganda's NMS to support the active Bundibugyo Ebola virus intervention in the DRC.

An Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft landed at Entebbe International Airport to deliver a 43-tonne consignment of emergency medical countermeasures to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

This was the second tranche of India's medical assistance aimed at strengthening public health preparedness and expanding regional Ebola response capacities. The critical diagnostic and protective kits arrive amid active multinational efforts to contain the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease outbreak.

India’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Upender Singh Rawat, presented the state-backed donation to continental health authorities upon its arrival at the tarmac. Financial and logistical coordination teams noted that the medical provisions will immediately target the safety of frontline medical workers and elevate disease surveillance speeds across transit lines.

The continental public health agency revealed that the materials will be safely stored and managed through Africa’s Ebola Continental Supply Chain mechanism based in Entebbe.

From the Ugandan hub, multi-agency teams will transport the medical gear directly to Ituri Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to mitigate the active viral outbreak. This specialized cross-border logistics operation relies on the joint support of the Uganda National Medical Stores (NMS), the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), the European Union Humanitarian Aid Flight, and the Ministry of Health of the DRC.

The Government of India mobilized the expanded 43-tonne shipment after receiving an explicit list of structural requirements from the African Union Commission. This consignment follows an initial emergency delivery of 2.5 tonnes of medical equipment that New Delhi dispatched to Kampala on May 24, 2026.

The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi reaffirmed that its diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa and Kampala will remain actively engaged with continental agencies to manage evolving healthcare emergencies. Regional health analysts observed that the bilateral intervention underlines the strategic value of international partnerships in building long-term epidemiological resilience across sub-Saharan Africa.

“The second shipment Ebola medical countermeasures arrived today at Africa’s Ebola Continental Supply Chain mechanism in Entebbe, Uganda bringing the total to just under 50MT,” the Africa CDC announced via its official communications channels. “This operation demonstrates the power of African-led coordination, continental solidarity, and strategic partnerships.”
