#African Union mission Somalia

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Commander of Land Forces, Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga has lauded UPDF troops in Somalia for the successful capture of key towns including Mubarak and Barrire. During an operational visit, the Commander of Land Forces emphasized discipline and Pan-Africanism as vital tools for regional stability.

The UPDF has deployed Battle Group XLVII to Somalia after rigorous training at Singo. Brig Gen Fred Mwesigye urged the troops to maintain discipline and professionalism as they join the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission.

The UPDF and Somali National Army have met with Mubarak community leaders to launch new infrastructure projects and strengthen security cooperation. Colonel Owiny Akena emphasized that community support is vital for lasting peace and the successful rehabilitation of local canals and roads.
