UPDF Troops Commended for Building Strong Community Ties in Somalia

The District Commissioner of Barawe, Umar Abdullahi Mohamed, has commended Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for strengthening relations with the local community.

Mohamed made the remarks during a meeting with the Commander of Battle Group 45, Colonel Justus Musenene, at the group’s headquarters in Embresso.

He praised AUSSOM troops, particularly the UPDF contingent, for helping to maintain security and supporting civil-military activities that improve the welfare of communities in Barawe.

The District Commissioner said cooperation between local leaders, communities and AUSSOM forces had helped create an environment that supports peace and stability.

Col Musenene thanked the people of Barawe and the district leadership for their continued support and cooperation. He said their contribution had supported the success of AUSSOM operations in the area.

He pledged that Battle Group 45 would continue working with the community and supporting initiatives that sustain peace and stability in the region.

The meeting was attended by the Battle Group 45 Operations Officer, Major David Okema; Political Commissar, Major Fred Emuron; and Engineer, Major Charles Baraza, among others.
