UPDF 1 Infantry Division troops have completed a 30-kilometre physical fitness route march across Wakiso District to strengthen combat readiness ahead of the upcoming Chief of Defence Forces Inter-Force Drill Competition.

Troops from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 1 Infantry Division have completed a 30-kilometre route march from Kakiri headquarters to Kayunga Kumbuzi in Wakiso District to test operational readiness ahead of the upcoming Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Inter-Force Drill Competition.

Addressing personnel following the exercise, 1 Infantry Division Commander Brigadier Fred Mwesigye instructed soldiers to integrate physical conditioning into their daily routines rather than relying solely on scheduled military drills.

“If you want to remain a relevant soldier, you have to look after your body,” Brig. Mwesigye said.

Brig. Mwesigye explained that the extended march forms part of broader physical fitness evaluations initiated by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to gauge overall troop endurance and maintain unit readiness across all formations.

The routine physical assessment brought together senior and junior officers within the division, including Deputy Commander Colonel Michael Walaka Hyeroba.
