President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday launched the Four-Acre Model farming campaign in the Greater Kibaale Districts, which include Kakumiro, Kagadi, and Kibaale. The initiative, introduced at Kikwaya Primary School playground in Kakumiro, aims to empower farmers through modern farming practices to boost household incomes.
While launching the campaign, Museveni encouraged farmers to adopt the Four-Acre Model to enter the money economy through commercial agriculture. He highlighted success stories from Gomba and Sembabule, where over 2,000 households have benefited from similar programs.
“My people in the cattle corridor listened to my advice on commercial dairy farming, and they are now doing well. The same can happen here,” Museveni said.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja commended Museveni for his consistent guidance on wealth creation through agriculture. “I started my own four-acre farm, and I will invite you to see the progress. I also have six acres of onions, which earn me Shs300 to Shs400 million,” Nabbanja shared.
Finance Minister Matia Kasaija lauded Museveni's dedication to empowering Ugandans through agricultural initiatives. “Your Excellency, we deeply appreciate your commitment to improving livelihoods,” he said.
Transport State Minister Fred Byamukama expressed optimism about the campaign’s potential to create wealth. “In five years, we expect each sub-county to have over 100 model farmers,” Byamukama stated.
Earlier, Museveni toured model farms in Kakumiro, starting with the Kamanyire Demonstration Farm owned by Byamukama. The farm features activities such as zero grazing, piggery, and poultry rearing. The President also visited solar-powered irrigation schemes designed to support small-scale farmers in maintaining steady crop yields.
At Ms. Namubiru Sylvia’s farm in Kikwaya village, Museveni inspected coffee and banana plantations, zero-grazing dairy cows, and piggery enterprises. He harvested pineapples from the farm, signaling his endorsement of diversified fruit farming.
The event, attended by several ministers and local leaders, highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to promote commercial agriculture and fight poverty at the grassroots.
