The Uganda Land Commission (ULC) chairperson Beatrice Nyakaisiki Byenkya has on Tuesday appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo where she has been charged with abuse of office and obstruction of a search.

Byenkya who denied the charges read by Chief Magistrate Joan Aciro, has been jointly charged with three police officers attached to ULC for blocking officials from the IGG’s office to conduct a lawful search in the Chairperson’s office. Recently, the IGG interdicted Byenkya to pave way for investigation on cases of corruption and abuse of office.

Prosecution alleges that the police constables; Richard Godfrey Anywar, Titus Wamono and Edward Turyatunga, working on orders of Byenkya on January 4, 2022, obstructed IGG investigators to carry out a lawful search in the offices of ULC contrary to Section 35 (g) of the Inspectorate of Government Act.
