The Government of Uganda has delivered Shs 10 million in financial support to each of the three families of Ugandan citizens killed in the South Africa xenophobic attacks. Handed over by Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune on behalf of President Museveni, the intervention also covered full body repatriation costs and placement into the Parish Development Model for survivors.

The Government has distributed Shs 10 million to each of the three families of Ugandan nationals who were killed during recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, handed over the financial packages on Wednesday on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Hon. Kasolo met with the grieving families in Kampala to convey deep condolences from the President and the state.

The minister revealed that the government also fully funded and facilitated the emergency repatriation of the victims' bodies to ensure they receive proper burials at their ancestral homes.

The three fatalities occurred amid a wave of violent anti-migrant protests and rising hostility toward foreign nationals across several South African cities.

The ongoing unrest prompted the state to organize large-scale voluntary repatriation flights for all stranded citizens wishing to return home.

Hon. Kasolo reiterated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside sister security and administrative agencies, remains on high alert to coordinate subsequent evacuation lines.

The state has already successfully evacuated hundreds of affected Ugandans on special flights following severe threats to their lives and property.

The minister assured the public that the returnees will be strategically linked to existing government livelihood initiatives to help them resettle and rebuild their livelihoods.

He specifically highlighted the wealth-creation frameworks of the Parish Development Model (PDM) as an active option available for the returnees to launch new income-generating projects.

The bereaved families expressed profound gratitude to President Museveni and the cabinet for bringing their relatives' bodies home, offering financial assistance, and providing constant consular updates throughout the repatriation process.

The Head of the Diaspora Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Johnny Muhindo, emphasized that the ministry is maintaining a 24-hour communication link with Ugandan community leadership abroad to maximize the protection and welfare of citizens living outside the country.
