The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled the nomination dates for Parliamentary Election candidates, including Special Interest Groups (SIGs), from October 15–16 to October 22–23, 2025.
According to the EC, the adjustment was made to accommodate Uganda’s hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Review Conference, which will take place on October 15–16, 2025. The conference is expected to attract government officials, legislators, and representatives from NAM member states and international agencies.
“The change is intended to facilitate participation, administrative efficiency, and national focus during this international event,” the EC said in a statement. The nominations will take place at the offices of the respective District or City Returning Officers.
In addition to shifting the nomination dates, the EC also released an updated electoral roadmap, including the revised period for presidential campaigns.
Under the new schedule, presidential candidates will be nominated on September 23–24, followed by a three-day harmonisation of campaign programmes from September 25–27. Campaigns for presidential candidates will run from September 29, 2025, to January 12, 2026.
Parliamentary and local government candidates will campaign between November 10, 2025, and January 12, 2026.
Voting for presidential, parliamentary, and local council elections will take place between January 12 and February 9, 2026, in line with Article 61(2) of the Constitution.
