The Deputy Commander of the Land Forces, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, has opened 24 housing units at the Mountain Infantry Division headquarters in Muhooti, Fort Portal, and urged soldiers who will occupy them to plan for life after military service.
Busizoori said the houses were part of a wider effort to improve living conditions for Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces personnel and their families. He said the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, had championed the housing programme while serving as Commander of the Land Forces.
“The CDF’s vision was to improve the housing conditions of officers and men of the UPDF. Now that the houses are complete, go ahead and occupy them and use them well,” Busizoori said.
He cautioned the occupants against letting the new accommodation distract them from preparing for retirement. He said the army would continue building homes despite limited funds.
“Resources are still limited, but we shall continue to squeeze the available resources and build until all officers and men have good houses for themselves and their families,” he said.
Busizoori also opened a two-classroom block at Mountain of the Moon Primary School. He urged the division to use construction committees to supervise future projects.
The division commander, Maj Gen Stephen Mugerwa, said the new homes would improve the welfare of his personnel.
