The government has commissioned the newly completed Shs72 billion Saka Bridge, a project designed to strengthen trade links and improve transport between Pallisa and Kaliro districts.

The bridge, constructed over River Mpologoma, connects the Bukedi and Busoga regions and is expected to ease movement for residents and businesses while improving access to schools, health centers, and local markets.

First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the commissioning, said the project is a strategic investment aimed at unlocking economic opportunities in Eastern Uganda.

“This bridge will improve access to Pallisa Town Council and surrounding areas, and it will boost business activity for the people of Bukedi and Busoga,” Kadaga said.

The Shs72 billion project was constructed by Arab Contractors and is part of the government’s broader plan to enhance regional infrastructure and reduce transport costs for rural communities.

Local leaders and residents hailed the bridge as a long-overdue project that will open up the region to trade and ease access to public services. The structure is expected to reduce travel time between Pallisa and Kaliro and improve the movement of goods and people across the two districts.
