The NRM Chairperson for Bududa Subcounty, Bududa District in Bugisu Subregion has been arrested for selling NRM 'yellow' bicycles meant for the party village Chairpersons.
Ibrahim Wabuyobo was on Thursday arrested on orders of the NRM Vice chairperson for Eastern region Capt Mike Mukula who was campaigning for President Museveni in Manjiya County, Bududa District.
Mukula had finished addressing a rally at Bududa Town Council and was now meeting District youth leaders when a one Nicholas Kangara, NRM village Chairperson for Bunyanga village stormed the meeting and begged to be listened to.
He revealed how NRM District officials including the registrar, Michael Wanditi and others, had mismanaged NRM bicycles and charged them Shs20,000 before they could get the bicycles. He said that 118 bicycles had been mismanaged and sold to the public.
"Capt Mukula, we are happy that today you are here. These NRM leaders are the ones spoiling the good name of the President. It's the reason people are now joining NUP. NRM chairpersons were charged Shs20,000 each for the bicycles and for some of us who couldn't get the money, the leaders sold the bicycles to outsiders who paid the money," Kangara said.
Fortunately, the accused persons were seated next to Capt Mukula. Over 30 NRM chairpersons testified against the NRM District officials most especially Ibrahim Wabuyobo, who denied extorting the village Chairpersons.
NRM District Chairperson for Bududa, Steven Wakyaya also denied having any knowledge about the allegations of extortion and corruption among party officials.
Mukula immediately ordered for the arrest of Wabuyobo and also ordered that the NRM District registrar, Michael Wanditi is also arrested.
In August this year, Museveni flagged off 68,000 bicylces for NRM LC Chairpersons to help in the Mobilization for the 2021 General polls. The distribution of these bicycles started about 2 months ago. NRM also fave out motorcycles for NRM Subcounty chairpersons.
It is not the first time Wanditi has been accused of corruption. During the NRM Party Primaries, he was accused of taking huge sums of money to manipulate poll results in favour of some candidates
