A 32 year old Ugandan computer technician working in Kigali, Rwanda has gone missing.

According to family and relatives, Ivan Peter Egesa reportedly went missing a month ago in Rwanda where he has been working as an IT expert in a company identified as UpType. They say that their efforts to reach out to Egesa on his telephone numbers have been futile as he cannot be reached.

On January 02, 2020, Leuben Onyango, a relative petitioned the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting for government to intervene and facilitate the tracing of Egesa and to enable him come back home.

“His last communication with the sister Annet Ajambo Kikomeko and his other friends was on 8th December 2019, after which he became unreachable on all his known contacts (+250701922094) and (0777766242) and other communication channels like Whatsapp and Facebook up to date,” Onyango said in his letter to the Ministry.

It is said that Egesa who was staying in Remera near the airport had told his sister that he was sick and would return home for Christmas by 22nd December 2019. It is alleged that he was picked up by Rwandan security officials.

“Someone in Kigali whose phone number was concealed contacted one of Egesa’s associates for whom Egesa used to fix his computers and also maintain his software, asking him if he knew Ivan Egesa and all he had known about him,” Onyango said.

The family has also written to Interpol-Uganda to assist in tracing for Egesa. This comes at the time when Uganda-Rwanda relations are at stake, almost a year after Rwanda’s closure of its border with Uganda at Katuna in March last year.
