Police in Ntungamo are investigating circumstances under which a police officer shot himself dead.
No. 545336 Police Constable Ben Langoya, aged 34 attached to Field Force Unit Ntungamo reportedly turned the gun on himself inside his residence in the Barracks on Thursday at about 6:50pm.
The Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira says the deceased’s body was found in his room in a sitting posture, leaning against the wall with a gunshot wound on the forehead. He explains that Langonya’s riffle SMUG POL.5658152032540 with 20 rounds of ammunition in the Magazine and one in the chamber, were recovered from the scene.
Kasasira says the gun had been placed on the body. He suspects the deceased could have put the gun muzzle in the mouth and pulled the trigger. One other bullet and the cartridge were recovered on the floor.
Statements have been recorded from the deceased's son and neighbors who were present during the incident.
The body has been taken to Itojo hospital mortuary for postmortem.
