An inquest has been launched into death of a suspect in custody at Bufundi Police out station in Rubanda district.
Erasmus Twinomujuni, 34 years old was detained for threatening violence and assaulting his biological mother, Justine Zinkubire.He was on Sunday morning found unconscious during a Suspects inspection parade.
Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate says the deceased is suspected to have died of body injuries after he was reportedly heard hitting himself on the detention wall the previous night.
“Today (Sunday) at around 03:00 am, force no.44432 PC Kweyamba and no.22767 Sgt. Bagarukayo heard him banging the wall, they responded opened and calmed him down since his issues were to be handled early morning. Moments later at around 0700am, the Oc station ASP Waswa and crew opened for normal inspection and found the suspect unconscious. He is suspected to have hit himself on the wall, he was alone in custody,” Maate explained.
He was rushed to Bufundi Health Centre where he died moments later. “Case reported at Bufundi Police station under SD REF, 04/08/12/019, Area Magistrate as coroner and police surgeon have commenced inquiries to establish the cause of death,” Maate said.
