Police are hunting for yet unknown thugs that broke into Kabale University premises and stole sixteen computers.

The burglary and theft occurred on Tuesday night. Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says fourteen of the computers were stolen from the computer lab, while each of the other two was stolen from the University Registrar’s office and that of the Director Post Graduate School.

“It was in the morning of 20/11/19 when it was established that the university registrar's office and that of the director post graduate school had no padlocks and on finding out one computer had been stolen from each of them plus fourteen (14) stolen from the computer lab,” Maate explained adding that the thieves gained entry through the behind window.

The university security guards have been arrested and charged with negligence of duty as investigations continue. “Police visited the scene and inquiries are underway to establish where the security personnel were at the time,” Maate said. He however declined to reveal the number and identities of the arrested security guards.

"Whoever sees anyone selling or fraudulently owning such items should report to the local authorities so that the suspects are brought to book. Those computers like any other university properties are engraved with letters KAB," Maate said.
