The Police in Obongi and Moyo are jointly investigating a case of attempted murder of ASP Ian Natukunda, the Officer In charge Palorinya Base Camp Police Post in Obongi district.

Natukunda was on Saturday at around 7:30am shot and injured by one Abubakari, a South Sudanese refugee. According to Josephine Angucia the regional police spokesperson West Nile/North West Nile, the suspect reportedly grabbed the gun from a female police officer who was guarding the camp.

“He (Abubakari) started conducting himself in a violent manner and it's during the process that he aimed and shot at ASP Ian Natukunda to the chest critically injuring him. The OC post had responded to the incident with a view of disarming the suspect,” Angucia said.

Meanwhile the suspect was also injured in the process of disarming him. Both victims were rushed to Moyo Hospital, but ASP Natukunda was there after airlifted to Kampala for further treatment. “The motive of grabbing the gun from the female officer is not yet clear but investigations continue,” Angucia explained.

“The Inspector General of Police and the entire Police fraternity have their prayers and thoughts with ASP Natukunda and do wish him a quick recovery,” she added.
