The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 15 Marines Brigade has conducted a 30-kilometre route march in Buliisa District, signaling heightened readiness along Uganda’s western frontier near the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The exercise brought together personnel from the UPDF, Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority. It followed a directive from the Chief of Defence Forces to assess fitness, discipline, teamwork, and operational preparedness.

Brigadier General Michael Nyarwa, Commander of the 15 Marines Brigade, said the drill was designed to ensure security forces remain capable of executing their constitutional mandate.
“We are here to assure Ugandans, to assure the people of Buliisa, that we are ready to protect them. Being near the borderline with the DRC, where the Allied Democratic Forces operate. This kind of movement sends a very serious signal that the UPDF remains alert and prepared,” Brig Gen Nyarwa said.

He noted that the march tested physical endurance and mental resilience while strengthening teamwork among participating forces.
Brig Gen Nyarwa said the exercise also reaffirmed the Marines’ core values, emphasizing that human capability remains central to combat effectiveness.
The 30-kilometre route march forms part of routine UPDF activities conducted across formations to maintain discipline, endurance, and readiness for future operations.
