The Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, together with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), AfriReps Consult, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other sector partners, received a Mauritius travel-trade delegation at Entebbe International Airport for a week-long familiarisation mission.
The visit aims to strengthen tourism cooperation, boost commercial visibility and expand partnerships between the two markets.
The team arrived aboard Kenya Airways and received Uganda’s warm hospitality, marking the start of an immersive tour across the Pearl of Africa. The mission supports Uganda’s plan to promote Africa-to-Africa tourism, deepen continental collaboration and position the country as a leading sustainable destination.
Laura Kahuga, First Secretary at the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, welcomed the delegation and encouraged them to feel at home as they explore Uganda’s tourism experiences, cultural richness and hospitality.
Speaking during the reception, Kahuga highlighted the mission as a key step in advancing tourism diplomacy. She said Uganda’s natural beauty, conservation efforts and cultural heritage offer strong potential for joint promotion and cross-border trade. “This initiative shows our shared commitment to building African tourism corridors and supporting cooperation based on sustainability, knowledge exchange and market growth,” she said. “By hosting Mauritius’ travel-trade representatives, Uganda is ready to build new connections and open more opportunities across the region.”
The seven-day programme will showcase major attractions such as Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest, the Batwa cultural experience and the world-famous gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The activities are designed to highlight Uganda’s tourism strengths, conservation achievements and the sector’s role in economic diplomacy. The delegation will meet tourism officials, conservation teams, cultural groups and private-sector players to explore collaboration, joint marketing and better connectivity between Uganda and Mauritius.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UTB said the visit is both a celebration of Uganda’s tourism excellence and a reminder of Africa’s vast potential when countries work together, invest in each other and speak with one voice on the global tourism stage. Uganda remains committed to welcoming the world through strong partnerships.
