Leaders from the Tooro sub-region have heightened mobilization efforts for the upcoming MK Birthday Run, set to take place on April 26 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. This year’s event is being organized under the inspiring theme, “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” emphasizing compassion, unity, and a shared commitment to uplifting communities across Uganda.
At the center of these efforts is Hon. Basaliza Henry, the Central Executive Committee Member and Coordinator for Tooro Sub region under the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). In a strong show of solidarity, Hon. Basaliza accompanied by the Chairperson of the Tooro Parliamentary Caucus Hon Lawrence Akugizibwe led a delegation to the PLU secretariat to purchase MK Run kits, signaling the region’s readiness and enthusiasm ahead of the national event.
The Tooro delegation was warmly received by Hon. Daudi Kabanda and Hon. Michael Mawanda, who commended the team for their dedication and proactive role in mobilizing support. Their engagement highlighted the growing national coordination behind the run and the increasing momentum it is generating across different regions.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Basaliza called upon Ugandans from all walks of life to turn up in large numbers, noting that the run goes beyond celebration to serve a greater purpose. He emphasized that the theme, “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” reflects the spirit of giving back and standing in solidarity with those in need.
“This is not just a run it is a cause,” Basaliza stated. “Through this initiative, we are encouraging Ugandans to come together in support of charity while spreading hope to communities that need it most. It is about unity, compassion, and a shared vision for a better future.”
Hon. Basaliza also praised Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his leadership and described him as a unifying force in Uganda’s socio political landscape. He highlighted the General’s commitment to fighting corruption and fostering integrity within national institutions.
According to Basaliza, the transformation of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) over the past two years reflects this commitment, noting improvements in professionalism, discipline, and accountability.
“The time is now to support Gen. MK’s agenda for a better tomorrow,” he added, stressing that such leadership offers renewed hope for national progress.

Hon. Lawrence, speaking on behalf of the Tooro Parliamentary Caucus, reaffirmed that all Members of Parliament from the region fully support both the MK Birthday Run and the broader vision of the Patriotic League of Uganda. He emphasized that their collective endorsement demonstrates unity of purpose and dedication to national development.
“As leaders from Tooro, we stand firmly behind this initiative,” Hon. Lawrence said. “The theme ‘Run for Charity, Run for Hope’ speaks directly to the kind of Uganda we want to build one that cares for its people and works together toward progress.”
The MK Birthday Run is expected to attract thousands of participants from across the country, including youth, leaders, civil society organizations, and members of the public. Beyond promoting physical fitness, the event is being positioned as a powerful platform for charity, social responsibility, and national unity.
As the countdown to April 26 continues, the message from Tooro leaders is clear: Ugandans are encouraged to participate not just in a run, but in a movement one that champions generosity, inspires hope, and strengthens the bonds that unite the nation.
