PLU Returns to Grassroots Mobilisation with First Post-Election Baraza in Kyegegwa

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has returned to grassroots mobilisation with its first Baraza since the conclusion of the recent elections and the restructuring of its leadership.

The gathering at Humura Playground in Kyegegwa District brought together PLU leaders, MPs, local leaders and supporters from Tooro, Bunyoro, Greater Mubende and other parts of the country.

PLU General Secretary Twalla Fadhil and Deputy Director of Mobilisation Henry Basaliza graced the event, which organisers described as the start of a fresh grassroots mobilisation drive.

The Baraza comes as PLU seeks to strengthen its structures after the elections and maintain support for its chairman, the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Basaliza, who also coordinates PLU activities in the Tooro sub-region, said the Kyegegwa meeting marked the beginning of a wider mobilisation campaign.

“This is only the beginning. Together, we shall continue mobilising, organising and strengthening PLU from the grassroots,” Basaliza said.

He said plans for the Baraza emerged during an earlier visit to the PLU Secretariat before local organisers moved to implement them.

“What began as an idea during our visit to the PLU Secretariat has today become a reality and more importantly a tremendous success,” Basaliza said.

He credited the turnout to cooperation among PLU leaders and mobilisers.

“This achievement is a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together with a shared purpose and commitment to service,” he said.

Basaliza thanked Gen Kainerugaba for entrusting the team with mobilisation responsibilities. He also praised Fadhil for providing guidance to the organisers.

The PLU official singled out Kyegegwa District coordinator Jovent Kyalimpa for mobilising resources and Mayor Musa Swaibu Rutange for coordinating mobilisation on the ground.

He also acknowledged MPs Tom Bright, Freedom Kaheru, Jackie Kyogabirwe and Kafuuzi for supporting the event.

Other groups involved included PLU coordinators, its medical and legal teams, security personnel, Secretariat staff and local mobilisers.

Fadhil also thanked residents for attending the gathering.

“On behalf of the Patriotic League of Uganda, I would like to appreciate the people of Kyegegwa for turning up in large numbers for today’s Baraza,” Fadhil said.

He credited Basaliza, Kyalimpa, Bright, Kyogabirwe and Kafuuzi, among others, with organising and supporting the gathering.

Fadhil also thanked ministers, MPs, district chairpersons, mayors, Resident District Commissioners, businesspeople and religious leaders who attended.

“We thank our Chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the opportunity. Thank you, Kyegegwa!” he said.

Supporters travelled from different parts of the country for the meeting. The mobilisation centred on the PLU’s plans to consolidate its grassroots structures after the election period.

Basaliza said the organisation will now build on the Kyegegwa gathering as it expands mobilisation.

“To every mobiliser, organiser, supporter and patriotic citizens who played a role whether directly or behind the scenes, thank you,” he said.

Among other leaders, former Finance minister Matia Kasaija, Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi, Lwemiyaga County MP Brigadier General (Rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande attended the event.
