Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma has assumed command of the UPDF 4 Infantry Division, taking over from Major General Felix Busizoori at the division headquarters in Gulu.
Deputy Chief of Defence Forces and Inspector General of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), Lieutenant General Sam Okiding, presided over the military handover ceremony.
Addressing senior military commanders, Lt Gen Okiding tasked officers with actively mentoring and developing personnel under their command to strengthen institutional professionalism.
“Mentor your juniors whenever you are deployed,” Lt Gen Okiding advised.
The Deputy CDF encouraged Maj Gen Sserunkuma to consolidate the operational and developmental gains achieved by his predecessor.

In his acceptance speech, Maj Gen Sserunkuma pledged to strengthen existing civil-military cooperation structures across Northern Uganda, emphasizing that community partnerships are vital for sustaining regional peace and stability.
Maj Gen Busizoori leaves the command following notable operational and community milestones across the region.
During his tenure, Maj Gen Busizoori contributed to neutralizing CODECO militia elements in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo under Operation Mlinzi wa Wanyonge and reduced cross-border incursions along the South Sudan border.

He oversaw key infrastructure developments, including the construction of two military firing ranges and the new Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Conference Hall at the division headquarters.
Maj Gen Busizoori also helped stabilize the volatile Apaa land conflict, enabling the area to transition into a productive agricultural zone, and rehabilitated 45 community boreholes during the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations.
The handover ceremony brought together State Minister for Northern Uganda Beatrice Akori, regional Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), and local government leaders.
