The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has tasked its regional leaders with prioritizing grassroots mobilization and joining the national campaign against corruption.
This was during a meeting at the PLU headquarters in Naguru, where national leaders hosted a delegation from Bunyagabu District to discuss the 2026 post-election political landscape and plan for upcoming Local Council (LC) elections.
Speaking at the meeting, Bunyagabu County Member of Parliament Dr. Victor Kalenzi commended the PLU for championing patriotism and supporting the fight against graft. He urged the people of the Tooro sub-region to embrace the organization, emphasizing that fighting corruption is essential for accountability, better service delivery, and national development.
PLU General Secretary Fadil Twalla reaffirmed the organization's commitment to building strong, transparent local structures.
"Patriotism is about protecting public resources. We must remain disciplined, united, and vigilant in monitoring government programmes to ensure they benefit local communities," Twalla said.

The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming local elections.
Hon. Henry Basaliza Mutegeki, the PLU Coordinator for Tooro Sub-region and Central Committee Member, pledged his support to local council candidates and urged the national leadership to further empower grassroots structures to ensure sustainable mobilization. He also thanked Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his leadership, describing him as Uganda's beacon of hope.

To boost civic awareness, Richard Murangi, the Secretary for Mobilisation under the Tuko Pamoja Initiative in Tooro, highlighted the progress of the "Manya Government Yawe" (Know Your Government) campaign. He requested more support for local media panelists who educate communities and raise awareness about government programmes.

The Bunyagabu delegation, led by District Coordinator Dennis Nkwasibwe, presented a memorandum detailing the state of the organization in the district. Nkwasibwe commended Hon. Basaliza for his leadership and commitment during the recent elections, noting that his mobilisation efforts played a significant role in securing the National Resistance Movement's (NRM) victory across Bunyagabu.
The delegation also included Bunyagabu District Woman MP Sarah Kabarokole and several local mobilisers.
Other districts from the sub-region will continue these engagements, with a delegation from Kyegegwa District scheduled to visit the headquarters.
