President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with the outgoing Egyptian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Monzer Selim, on Tuesday at State House, Entebbe.
Ambassador Selim paid a farewell call on the President ahead of concluding his four-year tour of duty on August 31, 2026.
President Museveni commended the envoy for his service and wished him well in his upcoming diplomatic roles.
“I wish you good luck,” President Museveni said.
Ambassador Selim expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government for supporting the Egyptian Embassy throughout his tenure.
His successor is scheduled to arrive in Kampala on September 4.
The departing envoy revealed that his new role at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters will focus on regional affairs.
“I’m going back to headquarters in Egypt, and I’ll be responsible for the Horn of Africa issues. So, I guess Uganda will not be a stranger to me,” Ambassador Selim said.
Commercial relations between Kampala and Cairo expanded significantly over the past four years.
The number of major Egyptian firms operating in Uganda grew from two to five.
Total operations by Egyptian businesses in Uganda rose from $120 million to an expected $700 million following planned investments next year.
“With our upcoming investment next year, we will reach approximately $700 million. So that’s about six times,” the ambassador stated.
Ambassador Selim praised President Museveni’s diplomatic leadership across the region, particularly regarding peace efforts in Sudan and Somalia.
He commended Uganda’s constructive role in mediating dialogue among member states of the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI).
“Your wisdom and the wisdom of Uganda has guided the family of the NBI through troublesome times, and we are counting on the continued leadership of Uganda when it comes to consultative efforts that would be able to bring everybody on board,” H.E. Selim noted.
Both nations are advancing plans to create a joint business council and partner on regional infrastructure projects.
