Chris Obore, Senior Parliament Officials Arrested In IGG Anti-Corruption Probe

The Inspectorate of Government has arrested Parliament’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Chris Ariko Obore, and several senior parliamentary officials over alleged misuse of funds belonging to the Parliamentary Savings and Credit Cooperative Society.

The arrests took place on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as investigators widened their probe into financial dealings at Parliament.

Those reportedly detained include Director of Human Resource Daniel Adilo, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker Leonard Okema, Principal Research Officer Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Protocol Officer Emmanuel Okwi Emuron, Personal Assistant Stella Itute and Capacity Development Officer Vincent Otebata. At least two other officials were also reportedly picked up.

The officials face investigation over suspected abuse of Parliamentary SACCO funds.

A charge sheet seen by this publication accuses Obore of stealing Shs5.25 billion from his employer. It says he accessed the money by virtue of his position.

Obore, a former Daily Monitor journalist, has served as Parliament’s communications director for more than 10 years.

During Speaker Anita Annet Among’s tenure, he became one of her most visible defenders. He often responded to criticism against the Parliamentary Commission.

The arrests come weeks after investigators expanded scrutiny of Parliament’s financial operations.

In May, social media reports claimed Obore had been arrested over corruption and money laundering investigations. Parliament officials and his family dismissed the claims at the time.

Thursday’s arrest is the first confirmed detention of Obore by the Inspectorate of Government in the ongoing probe.

The Inspectorate of Government investigates corruption, abuse of office, mismanagement of public funds and unexplained wealth. It can also recommend prosecution, recover public funds and seek disciplinary action against public officials.
