A total of 88 travelers from Rwanda have been placed under quarantine at Kirigime Guest House in Kabale Municipality.

The travelers were entering Uganda through the Katuna border, yet President Yoweri Museveni has directed the closure of all border points and Entebbe Airport, blocking entry and exit of the country in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Blocking border points is one of the measures the Uganda government has instituted to curtail the rapid spread of Covid-19 which was confirmed in the country on Saturday morning. The President had on Wednesday ordered the closure of schools, suspended Religious and other social gatherings.

Uganda has also stepped up security along the borders, by deploying the army.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson says the group is to be subjected to a mandatory 14-day quarantine to monitor their health. Four of those quarantined are Kenyans, an Eritrean and 83 Ugandans, who were rushing out of Rwanda following the country’s confirmation of Coronavirus over a week ago.
