Communities in Kyotera District have received new sanitation facilities and sports equipment from the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd to improve hygiene and support young talent.
The facilities at Kabonera village will serve residents of Kabonera, Nabigasa, Kabugimbi, Lukoma and Kakoma, alongside nearby schools.
The company handed over a four-stance, drainable pit latrine block with separate facilities for male and female users. It also installed a rainwater harvesting tank and landscaped the grounds.
The block has ventilation, lighting and privacy features to improve sanitation for schoolchildren, young people and other playground users.
EACOP also supplied equipment for football, netball and volleyball. The items include goalposts, poles, nets, balls, jerseys and referee kits.
The equipment will support organised sport and give young people from surrounding villages and schools opportunities to develop their talents.
EACOP’s social economic investment manager, Matred Murungi, said the project responded to needs identified by the community. It falls under the community health and safety component of the company’s Social Economic Investment programme.
She said combining sanitation facilities with sports equipment would address health and recreation needs while encouraging girls and boys to participate.
Kyotera Resident District Commissioner Apollo Mugume, area MPs and community representatives attended the handover.
Mugume said the investment would nurture talent, promote fitness and strengthen community ties.
“This initiative marks significant progress in nurturing young talent, promoting fitness, and serving as a hub for unity and community engagement,” he said.
EACOP, which is developing Uganda’s crude oil export pipeline, said it would continue supporting projects that address local priorities along the pipeline corridor.
