The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) launched its United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter on 31 October 2026. PLU Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs Ronnie Kananura declared the chapter operational and endorsed General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for president in 2031.
Kananura said the chapter was built by members who organised and funded the launch. He said PLU promotes patriotism, national unity, integrity and service, and affirmed its NRM affiliation and commitment to patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation and democracy.
He said patriotism should shape how leaders act, treat others and carry out their duties to Uganda.

Kananura told members of other political parties at the event that they still share responsibility for Uganda despite differing views.
He thanked chapter leader Ismail Wandera and the organising committee, acknowledged the Secretary General and Commissioner for External Affairs who could not travel, and credited Hon. Balaam Barugahara with establishing the chapter’s initial structure.
Kananura asked the new leadership to listen, communicate clearly and permit open debate. He said the chapter’s strength will depend on its leadership and how members treat one another.

He further noted that the endorsement of Gen Kainerugaba for president should come with responsible leadership, integrity and service.
“It is now my honor, in my capacity as Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs, to declare the Patriot League of Uganda United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter officially launched, this 31st day of October 2026,” Kananura said.

Alan Kasujja, Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, and Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, attended.
Kasujja, who is also a PLU Central Committee member, was the chief guest and delivered a message on behalf of PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Kasujja thanked the organizers and members, urging them to continue doing a good job of promoting patriotism.
On his part, Hon. Nyombi Thembo said the PLU is a strong institution that will facilitate a smooth political transition and preserve the gains of the revolution.
