MultiChoice Uganda has unveiled a new range of DStv subscription packages, with monthly charges starting at Shs 25,000, in changes aimed at giving customers more entertainment and sports content at lower prices.
The new packages, which take effect on November 5, 2026, will replace the existing Access, Family, Compact and Premium subscriptions with Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate.
The announcement was made at the company's headquarters in Kampala, where officials said the changes followed feedback from subscribers seeking affordable access to popular television channels.
Under the new arrangement, DStv Access will become Starter, costing Shs 25,000 per month. The package will offer more than 85 channels, an increase of 10, and introduce SuperSport KICKOFF.
Subscribers will watch all Spanish La Liga matches and selected English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and French Ligue 1 fixtures.
DStv Family will become Select, with subscribers paying Shs 60,000 monthly for more than 100 channels. The package will include M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars, M-Net Legends, CNN, Discovery ID, the History Channel and children's entertainment.
DStv Compact will change to Sports, costing Shs 100,000 per month. The package will carry more than 115 channels, including 17 dedicated to sport.
Unlike the lower-priced packages, Sports will broadcast every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match. It will also cover cricket, basketball, selected rugby matches, UFC and WWE.
DStv Premium will become Ultimate at Shs 185,000 per month. Subscribers will access more than 130 channels, including Formula 1, MotoGP, international rugby, tennis, golf and premium international television series.
MultiChoice Uganda chief executive officer Hassan Saleh said the new structure was designed to offer subscribers greater choice without compromising content.
"Our focus is on giving subscribers better value and access to the entertainment they love," Mr Saleh said.
"DStv's strength is the combination of African entertainment, leading international content and unrivalled live sport in one place. We've reimagined our packages to better reflect how customers watch today, with tailored options specifically for general entertainment and sports fans."
The announcement comes as MultiChoice adjusts its operations following its integration with French broadcasting company Canal+.
The company said the partnership would strengthen its access to international programming while supporting the production of African films, series and other entertainment.
Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) director of Industry Affairs and Content Development Julianne Mweheire welcomed the changes, saying companies needed to respond to the demands of their customers.
"For the first time, we are not talking about economics, we are talking about customers speaking and the entity listening. This is really something to celebrate for the consumer," Ms Mweheire said.
She praised MultiChoice for adjusting its services to reflect changing viewing habits.
The broadcaster also announced the launch of SuperSport Swahili, a 24-hour sports channel targeting viewers in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
The channel, which begins broadcasting on November 5, will provide Swahili commentary and analysis of major international competitions, including the Premier League, UEFA tournaments, La Liga and Serie A.
Other programmes will cover athletics, UFC, WWE and regional sporting events.
MultiChoice also plans to introduce new seasons of locally produced entertainment programmes, including Kampala Crème, Home of our Stars, Musama and Tie the Knot.
The broadcaster will also carry the Short and Byg Show, hosted by Ugandan media personalities Isaac Katende, popularly known as Kasuku, and Shamim Mayanja, also known as Zubeda.
The company said the revised subscription structure would extend to DStv, DStv Stream and GOtv, with the four advertised price categories ranging from Shs 25,000 to Shs 185,000.
The changes come amid growing competition from internet-based streaming platforms, which have given viewers more options for watching films, television series and live sports.
MultiChoice hopes the revised packages will retain existing customers and attract new subscribers by offering popular content at more accessible prices.
