Five Members of Parliament from the Ankole sub-region have endorsed Chief of Defence Forces and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Chairman, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for the presidency in 2031.
The legislators presented their formal declarations during a visit to the PLU National Secretariat in Kampala on Monday.
The delegation of MPs comprised:
- Hon. Amos Kankunda – Rwampara County
- Hon. Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama – Mbarara South Division
- Hon. Amanya Cohen Kyampene – Igara County West
- Hon. Boaz Atwijukire – Katerera County
- Hon. Zadock Mutekanga – Buhweju County
The lawmakers were received by PLU National Vice Chairman and General Secretary, Hon. Fadil Twalla, as the civic-political pressure group steps up stakeholder engagements across the country.
The endorsement forms part of a nationwide mobilization drive rolled out by the PLU ahead of the 2031 electoral cycle.
Earlier in September, the group launched an official presidential endorsement portal alongside grassroots signature collection drives, allowing civic leaders, lawmakers, and citizens to formally pledge support for Gen Kainerugaba's post-2026 political transition roadmap.
PLU leadership stated that cross-regional consultations and endorsements from sitting legislators will continue as the movement consolidates national grassroots structures.
