Hundreds of shortlisted candidates flocked to theKololo Ceremonial Grounds as the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) concluded its nationwide recruitment drive.
The general recruitment exercise seeks to fill critical personnel gaps created by recent retirements and the completion of service across various units.
Brigadier General Allan Kalanzi led Team Two of Kampala Extra in conducting the final document and physical vetting for applicants from the Kampala metropolitan zone.
Captain David Kamya, the spokesperson for Team Two of Kampala Extra, commended the patriotic turnout of young citizens aiming to join the armed forces.
“The response from Ugandans has been very encouraging. We have received hundreds of qualified and patriotic young Ugandans who are eager to serve their country,” Capt. Kamya said.
Capt. Kamya emphasized that recruiting officers conducted the vetting with strict transparency and adherence to institutional benchmarks.
“We are ensuring that every candidate is thoroughly verified and only those who meet the required educational and medical standards are recruited,” Capt. Kamya added.
The UPDF announced 10,400 vacancies in mid-July to recruit regular soldiers and specialized professionals across Uganda.
Regular recruitment targeted Ugandan nationals aged between 18 and 22 years holding a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), or equivalent academic credentials.
