The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Land Force has hosted South Korea’s Defence Attaché in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral military cooperation.
Colonel Kim Seha paid a courtesy visit to the Land Force Headquarters in Bombo, where he held talks with senior UPDF officials on defence and security collaboration.
The Chief of Staff – Land Force, Brigadier General Chris Bagonza, commended the South Korean government for supporting the UPDF through training and professional exchanges.
“Over the years, our personnel have had the opportunity to train in South Korean defence colleges. However, we appeal for more slots,” Brig Gen Bagonza said.
He said the UPDF is seeking to expand cooperation beyond training to include advanced technology, engineering, and logistics.
Colonel Kim praised the UPDF for its role in regional and international peacekeeping missions, including deployments in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan.
He said Uganda’s contribution to peacekeeping is widely recognised and expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with the force.
“We highly recommend Uganda’s participation in the upcoming Korean Expo to explore a wide range of defence exhibitions,” Col Kim said.
He added that South Korea is willing to share its advanced military technology and expertise with partner forces such as the UPDF.
The meeting was attended by senior officers, including Brigadier General Edward Mutawe, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Atuhairwe, and Lieutenant Colonel Rolland Bwebare.
The engagement reflects growing defence ties between Uganda and South Korea, with both sides exploring expanded collaboration in training, technology, and operational capacity.
