Uganda and Qatar have renewed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding economic cooperation following a bilateral meeting held on April 10, 2026.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Henry Okello Oryem, met Ahmed Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdullah Al Zwaidi to discuss areas of mutual interest and investment opportunities.
Oryem reiterated Uganda’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Qatar, pointing to the country’s stability, security and favourable investment climate. He said these factors continue to position Uganda as an attractive destination for foreign investors seeking opportunities in East Africa.
Al Zwaidi welcomed the strengthening of relations and praised Uganda’s tourism appeal and infrastructure. He cited his recent visit to Murchison Falls and commended the road network beyond Kampala, noting that such developments support trade and investment.
The envoy said Qatar is prepared to implement pending memoranda of understanding and expand engagement in sectors including agriculture and manufacturing. He added that Uganda’s natural resources and growth potential offer strong opportunities for joint ventures.
Both sides expressed optimism about enhancing bilateral ties and agreed to explore new areas of cooperation aimed at boosting trade, investment and economic development.
