President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has dismissed circulating misinformation about his recent “Indian Ocean” remarks, saying the claims deliberately distort his message and mislead the public.

The controversy began after a clipped version of Museveni’s earlier speech circulated on social media, falsely suggesting that he intended to annex or extend Uganda’s borders toward the Indian Ocean. The claim, amplified by political actors and online commentators, quickly spread despite lacking context or factual basis.

Museveni said the misinformation was part of a broader trend aimed at undermining the National Resistance Movement’s long-term strategy for Uganda’s development. He noted that the NRM’s vision remains anchored in stability, regional cooperation, and economic transformation.

The President reaffirmed that the party’s strategic direction is grounded in clear policy priorities. He emphasised that attempts to twist his statements will not derail the government’s commitment to guiding the country toward sustained growth.

Museveni urged the public to rely on authenticated information and ignore what he described as intentional misrepresentations meant to fuel confusion.
