The Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) has launched emergency restoration works on the Iganga–Bulopa–Kamuli Road after heavy flooding washed away a key section at Namadope Swamp, cutting off traffic on October 26, 2025.
According to a statement released, the Ministry confirmed that the flooding caused severe erosion and a culvert failure between kilometer marks 7+000 and 7+600, completely disrupting transport between Iganga and Luuka districts.
“The contractor has already secured the site and mobilized teams to restore the damaged section within 24 hours,” the Ministry said.
To ease movement during the repairs, the public has been advised to use alternative routes, including:
- Busalamu – Waibuga Subcounty Headquarters – Bulanga – Iganga
- Namukubembe – Buwologoma – Kawete – Namungalwe – Iganga
- Namadope Trading Centre – Bukyogo – Butimbwa – Kinawanswa – Bulamagi – Iganga
Motorists have also been urged to follow diversion signs placed along the designated routes to ensure safety and reduce congestion.
The Ministry apologized for the disruption caused by the flooding and thanked the public for their patience as repair works continue. “We appreciate the cooperation of all road users as we work to restore normal traffic flow on the affected road section,” the statement added.
The Iganga–Bulopa–Kamuli Road is a key transport link for communities in eastern Uganda, connecting agricultural and trading centers across Iganga, Luuka, and Kamuli districts.
