The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the nation are mourning the passing of Colonel David Byaruhanga, a senior officer hailed for his dedication, bravery, and selfless service.
Byaruhanga, who commanded the 409 Brigade in Bondo, Arua District, succumbed to bullet wounds sustained on duty.
His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, leaders, and the public, with many remembering him as a fearless officer committed to Uganda’s security.
The 4th Infantry Division’s Public Information Officer, Captain David Kamya, described his passing as a great loss. “I have got a confirmation from our Division Commander (Major General Felix Busizoori) that death has taken our own senior officer, Col. David Byaruhanga,” he said.
Byaruhanga was instrumental in enforcing Presidential Executive Order No. 3 to curb the illegal charcoal trade in Acholi sub-region. He also played a critical role in stabilizing Karamoja during operations to disarm the Karacuna warriors.
Tributes Pour in for Col. Byaruhanga
The State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of Children and Youth Affairs, Balaam Barugahara described Byaruhanga as a true patriot whose contributions to the UPDF and the country will never be forgotten.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the people of Kiryandongo, Bunyoro, and the entire UPDF community on the tragic loss of Colonel David Byaruhanga. May his sacrifice and bravery be remembered and honored,” he wrote on his X account.
He also prayed for strength and comfort for Byaruhanga’s family, friends, and colleagues.
“May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire and motivate us,” he added.
Across social media, many have hailed Byaruhanga as a committed leader who dedicated his life to national service. Others have called for his legacy to be honored by continuing his mission to protect Uganda’s resources and ensure security.
