President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the Nyekundire Group in Kanungu District for their support of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) despite attempts to divide the party.
“I want to thank the founders of Nyekundire Group for standing firm and supporting the NRM, even when some people attempted to split the party,” Museveni said while meeting the group on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Kanungu District headquarters.
Nyekundire Group consists of men, women, and youth from Kinkizi East and West who mobilize support for the NRM and President Museveni. The President praised their dedication and pledged UGX 500 million to their SACCO. He also promised to provide a hatchery and a brooder to boost poultry farming within the group.
To improve infrastructure, Museveni committed to working on key roads, including Kanyantorongo and Bwindi to Kisoro, to enhance connectivity in the region.
Mzee Donald Kananura, the group's chairman, thanked the President for honoring their invitation and acknowledged government efforts in constructing roads in Kanungu. He reaffirmed Nyekundire’s support for Museveni’s leadership.
Patience Kinshaba Nkunda, the Woman MP for Kanungu, highlighted the contributions of Nyekundire women’s groups in campaigning for Museveni. She requested support to empower them further and called for the establishment of a technical institute to equip women with skills.
Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, lauded the President for setting up a skilling hub in Kigezi Sub-region and urged him to establish another in Kanungu.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, Members of Parliament, RDCs, and religious leaders among others.
