Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, Deputy Chief of Defense, representing the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, urged promoted UPDF officers to join the fight against corruption in their respective offices.

"Go and fight that virus called corruption. It's not a battle for one or two individuals, but for many serious-minded people. If we don't fight corruption, it will distract us, affect our country, and impact the region," Gen. Okiding emphasized.

Gen. Okiding was speaking at the pipping ceremony of two General Officers and seventeen Colonels at the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya on Friday.

He thanked the CDF for delegating him to preside over the ceremony.

Brig. Gen. Paul Namawa, Chief of Staff of the Special Forces Command, expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni, Commander-in-Chief, for his wise leadership in transforming the UPDF into a responsible and accountable force. Brig. Gen. Namawa also acknowledged the leadership of the UPDF under Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Brig. Gen. Namawa noted that he and his colleagues are aware of the weight that comes with the promotion, urging his colleagues to serve the country with honor and dedication. He added that they are ready to cope with the pace at which security threats and dynamics are changing.

Some of the decorated officers included Brig. Gen. Paul Namawa, Col. Chris Magezi, CDF's Military Assistant in Charge of Public Relations, Col. Emmanuel Rubyakana, and Col. Sam Kansiime among others.

The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, including Maj. Gen. Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff, the Commandant of the National Defense College, Maj. Gen. Francis Okello, and the Joint Staff-Political Commissariat Maj. Gen. Henry Masiko.
