Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) has been lauded for its role in advancing equitable wealth creation and fostering resilient communities through the cooperative model. This praise came during a visit by Botswana’s Defence Forces cooperative, Dikwata SACCO, on October 15, 2024.
Led by Maj. Gen. Hendrick Rakgantswana, Dikwata’s Chairperson, the 10-member delegation aimed to learn from WSACCO’s governance, operations, and ICT strategies. "As a young SACCO, we are here to learn from Wazalendo SACCO. We share common goals and challenges, and after this interaction, we believe we can address them more effectively," Maj. Gen. Rakgantswana said.
Ms. Kefilwe Masalila, CEO of the Botswana Savings and Credit Cooperatives Association (BOSCCA), highlighted Dikwata SACCO’s desire to understand the factors behind WSACCO’s success.
Dr. Sylvester Ndiroramukama, CEO of the Uganda Cooperative Savings and Credit Union (UCSCU), praised WSACCO as one of Africa’s fastest-growing SACCOs. “Wazalendo has excelled in improving the lives of its members and supporting surrounding communities," he said.
Col. Joseph Freddy Onata, CEO of WSACCO, emphasized the value of military SACCOs sharing best practices, noting that Botswana played a key role in shaping WSACCO during its formation in 2005. "Hosting the Botswana Defence Forces SACCO is a way of giving back," he said.
The visit underscored the spirit of cooperation among military SACCOs, aimed at enhancing service delivery and mutual growth.
