The Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Treasury, Ramathan Ggoobi has set new deadline for the recruitment of Parish Chiefs for the implementation of the Parish Development Model.

In his new communication to all CAOs in the Local Governments, PSST Ggoobi has extended the deadline for recruitment of Parish Chiefs to 30th October 2021. He says that CAOs who do not comply with the new deadline will face a disciplinary action.

Ggoobi has expressed dissatisfaction with the slow response towards recruitment of Parish Chiefs. The Ministry of Finance had set 30th September, however, few Districts had complied.

According to Ggoobi, the recruitment of Parish Chiefs/Town agents is a prerequisite for the effective implementation of the Parish Development Model.

"I am therefore extending the deadline to 30th October 2021, disciplinary will be taken against Local Government Accounting Officers who will not have adhered to the new deadline," he said.

The Local Government Accounting Officers have also been tasked to submit a status report on the recruitment of Parish Chiefs.

Starting this Financial Year, Government is implementing the Parish Development Model as a vehicle for reducing poverty through an all inclusive approach for socio-economic transformation of subsistence households.
