Chinese national killed at road construction site in Mbarara

A Chinese national named Lee Limin was on Wednesday morning knocked by a truck and he succumbed to injuries on admission at Mbarara Region Referral Hospital.

According to Rwizi Regional Police Spokesman Samson Kasasira, at around 9am,  Lee Limin was instructing a truck registration number UBD 895N that was being driven by one Hassan Kamari .

But he divided his attention between offering directions and his phone and the "truck hit and seriously injured him".

He was standing behind it.

He "was distracted by his phone as he instructed the truck to move backward and it ended up knocking him," said Kasasira.

The incident happened along Kamugungunu Road that is undergoing construction in Rwebikoona cell, Kamukuzi division, Mbarara City.

Limin, 49, was an employee of the Chinese International Construction Company (CICCO). The truck driver, also an employee fled the scene and is still at large, according to police.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary for postmortem.
