President Yoweri Museveni has made a U-turn on his earlier appointment of former Deputy Lord Mayor, Sarah Kanyike as Director in charge of Gender, Community Service and Production.
Museveni has now appointed Kanyike as Minister of State for Disability and Elderly. The said ministerial post has been vacant since 2016 when it was occupied by Sulaiman Madada. After 2016 elections, President Museveni appointed Adrian Tibaleka as State minister for the Disabled and Elderly, but she was rejected by the Appointments committee. The position has since then remained vacant.
According to a letter signed by Paul Wabwire, on the behalf of the Clerk to Parliament, Kanyike has been requested to meet the Parliamentary committee on Appointments for vetting on July, 28th, 2020.
Kanyike was on June along with others nominated for top jobs at KCCA. Other presidential nominees are; Dorothy Kisaka as the executive director of KCCA, David Luyimbazi Ssali as the deputy director, Dr. Daniel Okello Ayen as director of public health and environment and Grace Akullo, as the new director human resource and administration. The above mentioned persons are yet to appear before the parliamentary committee for scrutiny.
