Four Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldiers attached to Kaabong Brigade have died in a motor accident.

The soldiers, whose particulars were not readily ascertained, died on Monday morning while attempting to arrest their colleague, Pt Jimmy Masaaba in Uzake village. Masaaba is wanted for shooting Joseph Nyerere, a foreman at a Chinese Construction Camp, following a disagreement.

According to residents, Pt Masaaba was sighted in Uzake village, Morungole Sub County, prompting the brigade leadership to send a team of officers to arrest him. Eyewitnesses say the speeding army vehicle registration number DO3DF108 headed for the mission, crashed into a beer depot, killing the four soldiers on spot and injuring three others.

It is alleged that the driver was obstructed by goats on the road and he lost control of the vehicle. Maj Telesphor Turyamumanya, the 3rd Division Spokesman confirmed the accident at around 7am.
