Residents of Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb have foiled an armed robbery and arrested the suspect.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the suspect, 23-year-old Isaac Mulengenyi was arrested by residents on Monday afternoon after he entered Liquid Cash Emergency Loans offices in an attempt to rob money.
“The suspect, Isaac Mulengenyi, 23, reportedly fired in the air to scare away onlookers, however, the mob charged at him, arrested and handed him to police,” Owoyesigyire said. “A case of aggravated robbery has been opened at Ntinda Police Station Vide CRB 123/2019 while a rifle has been recovered with nine rounds of ammunition,” he added.
The suspect is being detained at Ntinda pending appearance before court. The incident comes less than a week after armed robbers killed a security guard at City Supermarket in Mpererwe and robbed millions of money. The Police are still pursuing the thugs.
