President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is among 20 distinguished medalists scheduled to be honoured during Uganda’s 64th Independence Day celebrations on Friday, October 9, 2026, at State House, Entebbe.
The announcement was confirmed by Hajjat Zamina Malole, Chancellor of the Presidential Awards Committee in the Office of the President.
President Museveni will be decorated with the Order of the Commander-in-Chief (Uganda Prisons Service Medal) in recognition of his stewardship, visionary leadership, and contribution to national, regional, and continental peace and security.
According to the Chancery and the Presidential Awards Committee, the Order of the Commander-in-Chief is a prestigious statutory decoration conferred upon sitting heads of state and heads of government who have championed peace, security, institutional modernization, and stability within Uganda, the wider East African Community (EAC), and across Africa.
The award is grounded under Section 3(2), Second Schedule, Part I of the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001 (as amended), which governs the conferment of state civilian, disciplined services, and military decorations.
The medal investiture ceremony forms a core highlight of the national scientific and official celebrations marking 64 years of Uganda's self-rule and independence from British colonial administration.
