President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Hon. Justice Moses Kawumi Kazibwe as the new Deputy Chief Justice.
The official ceremony took place at State House Entebbe on Friday. President Museveni congratulated the new judge and commended the entire judicial branch for its ongoing structural improvements.
The head of state praised the Judiciary under the leadership of Chief Justice Flavian Zeija. He specifically applauded the institution for making progress against systemic corruption.
He also commended the courts for expanding Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms. He also highlighted the benefits of embracing digitisation to improve efficiency.
"These reforms are important in ensuring that justice is delivered efficiently, fairly, and without unnecessary delays," President Museveni stated.
Reflecting on past challenges, the President recalled the state of the legal system when his government originally took power. He noted that corruption and an excessive focus on technicalities previously weakened the judiciary.
Consequently, the President expressed satisfaction with current institutional reforms. He noted the visible progress in strengthening substance, integrity, and accountability during court trials.
President Museveni offered his best wishes to the new judicial leader. He wished Hon. great success as he assumes his new responsibility.
