The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, was last evening hosted by the Japanese Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fukuzawa Hidemoto, at a dinner where the two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Japan.
H.E Hidemoto hosted the Ugandan General at his official residence in Kampala.
According to a source in the office of the SPA/SO, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba expressed his gratitude to his friend —Ambassador Fukuzawa and the Japanese government for their ‘significant contributions to Uganda's development, particularly in the areas of infrastructural development, agriculture, and support for refugees.’
The two leaders had previously met at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo when Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba served as the Commander Land Forces.
"We were honored to host His Excellency Fukuzawa Hidemoto, Japan's Ambassador to Uganda. We discussed enhancing Uganda-Japan military cooperation, and he also shared information about the many outstanding economic and social programs that Japan conducts in Uganda. I would like to thank him for his visit," tweeted Gen Kainerugaba then.
Uganda and Japan have been cooperating in various other aspects, including infrastructure development, human capital development through numerous training programs, and support in the health sector through the provision of medical equipment and systems strengthening.
Japan has notably supported Uganda in the construction of the cable-stay bridge across the Nile River, the upgrading of the Atiak-Nimule road to promote economic activities between Uganda and South Sudan, the Kampala Flyover Construction and Road Upgrading Project, the Bujagali Interconnection Project, and the improvement of the Queensway power substation, among others.
Uganda has also benefited from a fleet of road equipment procured from Japan, which has greatly enhanced the country's capacity to maintain its road infrastructure.
It is also worth noting that Japan is among the top five countries with the most powerful armies in the world.
