Parliament on Tuesday paid tribute to the Most Reverend Orthodox Archbishop of Uganda, Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga.

Jonah Lwanga passed away in Athens, Greece last week and was buried at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Namugoona on Monday.

While debating a motion for a resolution of Parliament to pay tribute to the Late Jonah Lwanga, the Vice President Jessica Alupo eulogised Lwanga as a candid spirtual leader who touched the hearts of all Ugandans with his good deeds.

The mover of the motion,  the third Deputy Prime Minister, Rukia Nakadama described Lwanga as a good shepherd who grew the Orthodox Church.

"Archbishop Lwanga was a spiritual leader of more than 600,000 Ugandans who are Greek Orthodox Christians and it is through his able leadership that the Orthodox faith in Uganda has expanded to consist of about 80 priests and 105 Orthodox communities," she said.

Nakadama heaped praises on Arcbishop Lwanga for emphatically fighting all forms of injustice including human rights violations, saying that he was an exemplary leader who participated in the shaping of the lives of Ugandans and served the Orthodox Church with dedication.

The Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga described Lwanga as a humble and complete leader who stood firm in defending humanity and human dignity.
