Uganda Airlines has suspended all scheduled flight operations effective Monday 23, March 2020 in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The country's carrier made the announcement on Sunday a day after the Ministry of Health confirmed one case of COVID-19.

"This is in the interest of ensuring the safety of Ugandans, staff and the public, compliance with the rapidly evolving travel restrictions, and the various national and international obligations in the global fight against COVID-19 Pandemic," the statement reads.

This comes a day after President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday announced the closure of all borders and suspended all incoming flights at Entebbe International Airport.

"Clients holding tickets for travel during the period have the option to rebook and fly at a future date or to request for a refund. Tickets changes are free of charge as we are offering a waiver for change fees on all flights across our network," the statement adds.

Uganda Airlines is not the first carrier to suspend flights. Ethiopian Airlines also suspended all its flights.
