President Yoweri Museveni who is also the commander-in-chief of the armed forces on Monday evening hosted a dinner for the generals who have been cleared to retire.

At the same function, the 19 generals received certificates and the President walked them out of State House to the main gate, a tradition that is observed whenever UPDF officers are being discharged from the force.

It is now part of UPDF to retire officers of all ranks, including the highest ranks. Last year, eleven Generals were also discharged from the army, making it 30 Generals to have retired in a space of at least 12 months.

Earlier, it had been reported that UPDF representative in Parliament Gen Ivan Koreta and former coordinator of intelligence services Gen David Tinyefuza would also retire but the two were not on this final list.
