Ugandan teams are supporting efforts to contain Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as health authorities seek to limit the risk of the disease spreading into Uganda.
The teams hosted DRC National Incident Manager Prof Steve Ahuka in Butembo, North Kivu Province, for talks on the outbreak response.
National and provincial response teams attended the meeting alongside representatives from the World Health Organization and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Participants reviewed progress and assessed the operational needs of teams working to contain transmission.
Ahuka committed to attending cross-border coordination meetings to strengthen cooperation between Uganda and the DRC. He also conveyed his regards to Uganda’s leadership.
The collaboration aims to contain the outbreak at its source and reduce the threat to neighbouring countries. Cross-border meetings will support coordination between the two countries as response efforts continue.
